An article from the "Annals of internal medicine: "Emergence of Multidrug-Resistant, Community-Associated, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Clone USA300 in Men Who Have Sex with Men"
If this stacks up what does it really reveal?
Probably this, the communities where this has been identified have a promiscuous lifestyle and as a result resort to antibiotic use more frequently than the general population. The rest is natural selection doing its thing.
So it is hardly surprising to see antibiotic resistant strains of old bacteria emerging in these communities.
This has been known for years, since it has already occurred with STI's once thought to be virtually conquered, but it is something considered impolite to talk about too loudly.
Well only time will tell if this new strain of Staphylococcus emerges as a significant public health threat or whether it will be contained within a few San Franciscan zip codes and places with similar demographics.
Here is the San Fransisco Chronicle's report

Did I just read "natural selection doing its thing" on this site??

It is evidence like this that has forced churches to back down on their original (biblical) beliefs on evolution!
That is what the article illustrates - the speed of evolution in some situations.

Well no, the new bug is still Staphylococcus aureus, just a strain that is more antibiotic resistant - thats all.
It hasn't mutated into a flying pig or something else, has it?
