So did we send a couple of guys to polish the boats or something? I mean what have we got nowadays that could really contribute to a war?

"I mean what have we got nowadays that could really contribute to a war?"
Agreed.
And if any of the 'horror' stories of total incompetence I've heard from EX NZ Mil personnel about the NZ Army, etc are anything to go one, RE Overseas Peacekeeping Duties. Well we're in deep 'S**t' if a 'real' war breaksout!
Just one quick example. NZ Mil personnel on UN peacekeeping in Sudan. They had to hunt for their own food and spent much of their time 'hiding' in converted shipping containers. NZ Army Brass left some of them completely ill equipped and lacking basic supplies and rations!

I was seconded to the UN as a peacekeeper in 1988 [1 0f 10], being seconded meant the UN was responsible for our upkeep [by paying a 'per diem' allowance] not NZDF back in Wellington, although we continued to receive salary.
As for the tone of yoiur comments AcidComments, I suspect you have had no real contact with today's military and are quite ignorant of military preparations and standards
