Peter Costello has long been angling for the Aussie leadership, but this week found himself on the receiving end of unwelcome publicity. Odd perhaps that these three journo's waited until two months before the election to publicise something they had failed to publicise back in 2005.
One is reminded, as citizens increasingly choose sides in the burgeoning madhouse we call Planet Earth, that we can sheet a lot of blame - arguably all of it in fact - home to those misguided hellcats who make up the Left.
Scientist Tim Flannery is voted "Australian of the Year" ostensibly because of his views that global warming is human-caused.
Apart from the inconvenient fact (Al Gore aside) that this hasn't actually been scientifically proven, it hasn't stopped Flannery from reaching all kinds of other speculative conclusions, such as the need for
's population to halve. As Tim Blair has pointed out, Flannery has two children - which of them does he plan to throw back to make the world a greener place?
Apparently the science boffins are all still arguing over how to combat the alleged global warming as well, with some suggesting giant mirrors in space could reflect 1% (yes, just one percent) of the sun's light back, which would be enough to reverse the impact of 150 years of industrial revolution pollution.
If a 1% shift in solar energy is all it takes, maybe it is just part of a natural solar radiation cycle anyway...
This week's demotion of Aussie federal immigration minister Amanda Vanstone is simply highlighting the crisis surrounding multiculturalism.
While good in theory, a la the seventies song Melting Pot, in reality multiculturalism has simply ended up importing regional and racial scuffles, as people fail to leave old allegiances behind.
As Zeg wrote when he sent me this toon:
"Australia is a work in progress but we do value our short heritage and our unique Anglo-Christian culture.
"Ask any Australian 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation and you will generally find a link to Europe and Great Britain and Asia. This is not multiculturalism at it's best, this is multiracialism at it's best. Cultures are predominantly based on a belief system, aka religion, thus when those belief systems try to co-exist unless the 2 opposing cultures agree to disagree and show a level of tolerance that is far beyond human ability this cohabitation will simply fail and the cultures will clash. This is happening in every city in Australia.
"As in all families, identity is extremely important and valuable, we all welcome individual achievements but when this individuality turns one member of the family against another, we have trouble.
"The proof is not academic anymore, the theory that multiculturalism cannot work without conflict first deciding which will be the dominating culture is evident world wide and has been since man first put up a fence and said "every thing on this side of the fence is mine"
"Amanda Vanstone really was not in tune with just what Howard and Australians are thinking, I always saw a strong personality there at first as I am sure the PM did however as time marches on there where just far too many blunders and the feather duster softly, softly approach to the portfolio sealed her fate.
"Tolerance is a 2 way street, when it is not then you will simply tolerate yourself out of existence."
