Christchurch police have confirmed that a woman dressed in black who allegedly claimed to have a bomb and who stabbed two airline pilots mid-air over New Zealand's South Island was "of Somalian background".
I hope the explanation is that she was merely insane. The alternative, in a peace-loving country like New Zealand, is too horrific to contemplate.
Then maybe it would be better to wait for the facts, rather than whipping up fear.
Will you still find it horrific if she is revealed as a xtian?

I'd suggest the fact that the police were able to identify her as a Somalian straight away means she is very well known to them.
Hence, there may be some known domestic background to this criminal incident rather than it being an act of supposed terrorism.
Either way, it's ta ta to her for quite some years.

"Will you still find it horrific if she is revealed as a xtian?"
99% of Somalians are usually Muslim.
A good percentage of them are trouble going by my experiences while I was living in Hamilton. They're not all that well liked there. The most 'racist' insults to them are often from the local Maori.
Anyway I had the head of the Somali Community living down my street. It was interesting to see the criminal behaviour of the Younger Somalians towards not only to their Somalian Elders (would smash the windows of their cars and steal things from them when they were parked along the street while attending their regular meetings), but towards the rest of the local community. Drug Dealing, Theft and vandalism. The Somali men treat their women appallingly often beat them and put burn marks on them!

fugs, I am not aware of a concerted xtian campaign to blow up infidels. Jesus told Peter to put away his sword (John 18:1-11). I do hope our Muslim friends will also repudiate violence one day.

jesus told a lot of people a lot of things, and most didn't care to understand him. The Irish "troubles" can be described as a "concerted christian campaign" to blow up those on the other side.

lol @ d4j!
fugley, do you really want to do a historical comparison of the relative peacefulness of Islamic vs Christian societies?
Posted by: ropata | February 08, 2008 at 02:15 PM
Nasty fugly, real nasty creep aren't you .
You will be judged one day and as a Peter I must hold my sword !!

Now, ya see, D4J...I'm struggling to find the comment where Fugley smacked you first on this thread...
Eyes front...stay on topic..

I'd be quite interested in your historical comparrison as long as you are honest about it and not rely on "but they were'nt real xtians"

Deport the woman. No mess, no hassle, no tax dollars for her "care" for the rest of her life.

If this occurred on a flight I was on, the length of her sentence wouldn't be an issue. The length of my sentence would however make for an interesting case of self-defence. Meanwhile she'd get a shiny new black body bag, as complete nullification of the threat would be the SOP in my line of work.

"Deport the woman. No mess, no hassle, no tax dollars for her "care" for the rest of her life."
That's good idea.
More than likely she's probably a 'refugee', so we're stuck with her!

Probably not prudent to speculate just yet. Most likely what the health professionals among us term a "nut".
One thing though - I thought we had security measures in place to prevent someone taking 2 knives onto a plane? If not before then very shortly then...

Well bless me! Here's a post on my very question from a fellow kiwi on jihadwatch:~
"I travelled to Auckland in a similar plane last month. You don't go through any security at these small regional airports like Blenheim. There is none. I've always thought the pilots were very vulnerable as there is no door to the cockpit and because they're small planes they have no stewardess. Sadly this is the wakeup call NZ needed but the laid back way of life there is now going to be history..."
and another comment:~
"I've just been talking to someone who met the woman a while ago at Blenheim hospital--apparently she was wearing a hijab at that time and had a very hostile attitude..."
I'm not being facetious: its probably just stress from adapting to our culture, poor thing.

Did you see tonights TV News reports?
She had problems and run ins with the police. Was a refugee, didn't want to be here. Asked to go back to Somalia. She also wanted to bring 14 family members from Somalia here at one stage, but was declined and also on a sickness benefit.
Local Somali community have distanced themselves from her.

This mad women had been the subject of an investigation by the department of immigration at Ministerial Level.
Surely the victims ( the NZ public) have a attainable case against the government for criminal negligence ?
