I'm looking forward to reading Ian's next number one best seller "Genesis of a Scam".He'll have to look out for litigation from big Al though. Then again that might be favourable for an author.

Thomas Everth

Lord Monckton's 'review' on the back cover of the Air Con book could not say it more clearly: The 'debate' about climate change as led by the deniers is not about scientific fact but about the fear of loosing the cherished privileges of boundless wealth and consumption that we have learned to take for granted over the recent past. The realization that the human enterprise has now reached a dimension that seriously meddles with and undermines the ecological prerequisites of our mode of existence is simply to painful for them to contemplate. The people on the street want to hear that life will go on like it did, that we will get wealthier and more powerful and that nothing will stand in our way. Air Con, right wing talk back radio hosts and the motley bunch of the 'deniers' give it to them like they want to hear it.

As I've pointed out before on this blog.

The real hypocrites are those wealthy elite who're pushing the Climate Change Agenda and Carbon trading. While at the same time fund, own and invest in the socalled CO2 energy consuming enterprises.

Blaming man for 90% AGW/CC is one of the worst corrupt political con jobs ever pulled by those very same wealthy elite who've also been funding and backing some of these the Climate Change Alarmist Gurus and Politicians during their campaigns!

Also what's worse is the overhyped exaggerations and deliberate falsifications and deceit claiming this or that is going to happpen and we're all doomed if we don't do as they say from these CLimate Change Alarmists and their Puppets in the MSM and Politics.

"...the cherished privileges of boundless wealth and consumption that we have learned to take for granted over the recent past..."

I would like some of this boundless wealth - could someone point me towards it? :-)

Personally, my wealth's boundaries are quite visible and I would rather keep some control over how it is used than give any more of it to Nick Smith.

Thomas Everth

"I would like some of this boundless wealth - could someone point me towards it?"

Take your shades off... ;-)
Compare our western living standards with those of the rest of the planet.

This is the heart of the entire discussion on climate change: The 'right' is spitting the dummy out of the cot because they can not and will not contemplate that our lifestyle might be responsible for damaging the planet. Conceding to ecological bounds is seen by them as giving up the 'freedom' to do as they please. Social responsibility for the well being of future generations is equated to communism, world government and what ever other conspiracy theory they can come up with.

Humanity must learn to live peacefully within the bounds of ecological sustainability. There is not much time left to do so.

Actually the worst socalled ecological and environmental damage is actually from the Third World and Developing Nations. Not the West.

Even the brief sampling of CO2 & Methane emissions from a Satellite. Showed some of the highest Global emissions weren't all from the Western World.

China and India had some of the highest readings. Along with Africa. Yes parts of Africa because of the poor subsistance level of it's population!

Meanwhile the West has wasted around $100 Billion on socalled Manmade Climate Change research, etc. Keeping Climate Change Alarmist pseudo scientists in a gravy train. A fraction of that money could have been used for proper sustainable developement, etc. I.E reforestation projects, etc.

The Whole AGW/CC is a Con. It's all about money and taxation with little if any real benefit to the Planet. You can't just think you can control the Global Climate. It don't work that way in the real World!

While we're at at it.

Here's some more Climate Change Garbage.

Save the planet: time to eat dog?

The eco-pawprint of a pet dog is twice that of a 4.6-litre Land Cruiser driven 10,000 kilometres a year, researchers have found.

In a study published in New Scientist, they calculated a medium dog eats 164 kilograms of meat and 95kg of cereals every year. It takes 43.3 square metres of land to produce 1kg of chicken a year. This means it takes 0.84 hectares to feed Fido.

They compared this with the footprint of a Toyota Land Cruiser, driven 10,000km a year, which uses 55.1 gigajoules (the energy used to build and fuel it). One hectare of land can produce 135 gigajoules a year, which means the vehicle's eco-footprint is 0.41ha – less than half of the dog's.

"world government and what ever other conspiracy theory they can come up with."

Actually. It's not a conspiracy theory.

Some world leaders have already stated it's about Global Governance.

Al Gore even said it.

"U.S. Climate Bill Will Help Bring About 'Global Governance"

And recently the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said as much.

"A deal must include an equitable global governance structure."

Thomas Everth

"A deal must include an equitable global governance structure." ... so whats wrong with an equitable governance structure that allows the nations of the world to address global issues in a fair and equitable manner? What are you afraid of? Loosing privileges? Sharing our good fortune with the rest of the world?

BTW: the footprint in resources gobbled up by the average Westerner, US far in front, is still a magnitude larger than the average 3rd world inhabitant and if we wanted them to share our lifestyle, we needed three planets to provide it. So go figure...

CM

Exactly right Thomas. The irony is that the right-wingers preach the free market, but have conveniently and hypocritically always been against doing anything to fix the significant market failure of not accounting for carbon emissions. They want to have it both ways, but they'd never admit it.

"Loosing privileges? Sharing our good fortune with the rest of the world?"

If half the money which has been wasted in the West on socalled Manmade Climate Change research. It could have helped address some of those problems in the rest of the World.

Having said that. Unless the Third World stops it's despotism of One Party Dictatorships and various other serious bribery and corruption that goes on in a number of those countries. Then its' a waste of Western Aid to those countries anyway. As a good percentage of it ends up in the corrupt pockets of their Govts and NOT used to to help the people in those countries who need it!

Plus the Corrupt UN is no better. When their overbloated white elephant of a system swallows up a large chunks of the Aid money in its own administrations fees and costs!!

Instead. The West is being faced with increased Tax and Financial burdens under CO2 Emission reductions which will do little, except bring us down to Third World Standards.

You might be able to afford an extra $3000-$7000 a year in CO2 taxation and extra costs to feel guilty for your living standards. The rest of us who live modestly anyway can't afford it.

And I'll say it again. IT will do nothing to save the Planet or Change the Climate. Because it doesn't work like that it the real World!

BTW: NZ CO2 emissions are only about a 0.2%. Australia's is only 1.5% and even the UK's is only 2.2%

CM

Acid, you've been heavily subsidised all your life. Why should you NOT have to pay what the market says you should? Why should you benefit from market failure?
That's the Reality (because apparently important words need to start with a capital letter).

"Acid, you've been heavily subsidised all your life. Why should you NOT have to pay what the market says you should? Why should you benefit from market failure?"

OK. I'll go and live in the gutter then and join the homeless.

Or I may aswell just get on the dole and bludge off the State. Since the Maori Party has seen the reality to negotiate Top Ups for beneficiaries!

BTW: My part share in a local onion crop this year for extra income. Looks likely to go belly up. Onions have stopped growing. Due to it being rather cold of late!

Thomas Everth

"You might be able to afford an extra $3000-$7000 a year in CO2 taxation"

You got it all so wrong: Factoring ecological damage into the price of things will do this: People will invest into CO2 neutral alternatives instead. Taxing emissions is the capitalist way of making sure that the free market will react and avoid that taxation which will avoid the pollution. CO2 Trading is a fee market capitalist solution to a global problem. So why are you so afraid? The cost of everything else is factored in so why not global environmental damage? Sure capitalists have for generations privatized profits and socialized cost, especially environmental cost. That is changing now and new and better technologies will be borne from the just and fair cost pressure generated from the environmental damage of bad habits.

CO2 Trading is rubbish.
The very wealthy elite who've got control of the oil and energy interests are now making bigger profits on their phony CO2 Trading.

Besides CO2 trading is getting a bad name because of Mafia and criminal Underworld interests. ON top of that it's become a big joke when the Carbon Trade exchange has dropped to US ten cents a tonne. Not going to do much to save the environment then.

Besides some of these eco alternatives being pushed on us are actually more damaging to the environment and Human health!

Thomas Everth

Acid: any proof of this: "The very wealthy elite who've got control of the oil and energy interests are now making bigger profits on their phony CO2 Trading..... Besides CO2 trading is getting a bad name because of Mafia and criminal Underworld interests."???
And don't cite other right wing blogs like this one as proof.

CM

OK Acid, what alternatively market correction do you advocate?

CM

(Sorry 'alternatively' should have been 'alternative')

Thomas Everth

Acid: Meanwhile the West has wasted around $100 Billion on socalled Manmade Climate Change research can you prove any of this?
And again, citations of your favorite right wing blogs won't do.

Ian Wishart

Thomas, you could try here:

Or this:

And as for wasting 100 billion on research:

The less colloquial figure is US$32.5 billion on research between 1989 and 2009 (US Govt expenditure only, public records), with a further US$36 billion in climate technology development (wind, solar etc, US government grants such as the US500 million to a sports car company associated with Al Gore this year)
