Air Con author preparing defamation papers against Herald columnist and newspaper
The author of an international bestseller on climate change is preparing to sue the New Zealand Herald and one of its journalists for defamation.
Ian Wishart, whose book Air Con has been a #1 bestseller in New Zealand and on Amazon.com in the United States, says Herald columnist Chris Barton has gone a bridge too far by defaming him without first reading the book.
“Barton has accused me of being dishonest, and or stupid, on the issue of climate change,” Wishart said today.
“Honest opinion is one thing, but when such allegations are leveled even though Barton has not actually read Air Con and instead relied on a discredited review by a rival pro-anthropogenic global warming author, Barton and the Herald need to face up to their own stupidity,” Wishart said.
“Air Con is packed full of peer-reviewed scientific papers. It has been read and positively reviewed around the world, including by climate scientists. A negative review based on a genuine appraisal of the book is perfectly fine, but for the Herald to publish Barton’s vitriol on the basis of someone else’s flawed hatchet-job of a review is ridiculous. Barton has done journalism a major disservice today, in my opinion, not just in relation to me but in relation to a number of other people he has defamed.”
“Barton has admitted to me that he has not read Air Con, but claimed he was entitled to take a swipe at me on the basis of Gareth Renowden’s review at Hot-Topic. If he wants to rely on Renowden as the ‘true facts’ in support of his opinion in court, good luck to him,” said Wishart, who added that he may widen the lawsuit to include Renowden as well.
SOME REVIEW COMMENTS ON AIR CON:
“This book by New Zealand journalist Ian Wishart a #1 bestselling author four times, surprised me by the completeness with which he reviewed and presents alternatives to the plethora of IPCC inspired spin and publicity which floods our media today. His sixteen chapters examining aspects of the debate are meticulously footnoted and thus are a valuable reference resource for those wishing to dig deeper or keep up to speed with the unfolding global warming / carbon reduction political drama in years to come. --Dr Warwick Hughes, climatologist
Ian Wishart's AIR CON is another masterpiece of scientific reason, letting the thinking world know that so-called man-made global warming is the greatest scam ever aimed at humanity. Please read this book. - Professor David Bellamy, England
UPDATE: FOR ALL OUR PUBLIC ADDRESS VISITORS
You might also appreciate this, and this (Russell, all these people must be "fools" too, yeah?)
UPDATE TWO:
Just noticed Russell Brown claims I moderated his comment out, and then gets bitchy as a result. Let the record show Brown has his facts wrong, yet again. His comment appears in chronological order below as does my response. Evidently the Left's leading blogger in NZ hasn't learned how to navigate the "Next" and "Previous" screen tabs.
IF I had dates for a public hearing on this case, I would try to arrange annual leave. I love winners.
Are you implying Ian is on a winning streak or are you just being smart? Obviously being a “smart” arse.
Tell me Peter what are you “smart” at doing?
And besides “living” on Ian’s blog site, do you actually have happiness elsewhere besides being here (on this blog constantly)? Have you found a 'home' here with Ian Peter?

"I love winners."
Sad. Only viewed from a foreign angle.
Can only come from the mouth of one who has never relished the experience before. From the sideline are we?

"I agree with J. The way you attacked Labour and Helen Clark in particular was absolutely disgusting."
That just proves.
People like you have had no personnel dealings with the likes of the criminals who've ended up becoming Labour politicians and or their crooked business mates.
The more I find out they are the most corrupt of all politicians and their business mates are the most corrupt in business.
The amount of sleaze and crooked business practicising amongst them and their best mates is absolutely appalling.
BTW: Recently found out about very good personnel friend of a Former Labour PM who was paying off his bent police mates $200 to falsify and alter police records on those individuals he had a snitcher on or didn't like.
This individual is an esteemed doctor. He even alters personnel medical records on people he doesn't like aswell.
He changed one individuals medical records in such away he couldn't leave the country. I.E said the person had AIDs which he didn't.
The only reason Taito Philip Field got busted because he wasn't 'connected' enough. He was a 'scapegoat'. Others in Labour have done exactly the same as he did and have got away with it. What he did is more common than you think.

Bullshit. I don't believe a word of it. You're a commenter called AcidComments, you could be anyone. [Snip: can't be bothered with defamatory left-wing timewasters anymore] I'm surprised he hasn't picked up on the Obama birther controversy driven by his vile right-wing idols in the States.
[That's right Tate, you're the halfwit who popped up on here the moment I announced I was suing Hot Topic. Stick to selling Peekaboo polish or whatever it's called, and say hello to Gareth if you see him.]
[And 'J' for Judy, have you written any bestelllers or broken any major stories lately, or are you still a wannabe hack/ignored poet down there in Franklin? Misogynist? The first refuge of those with no substantive argument is to go straight for the ad hom attack as you did in your defamatory post. How about option C, which evidently didn't occur to you, and that is that Clark was legit for study because a), she was the Prime Minister, b) she was driven by an agenda, and c) I spent the previous ten years bagging the Nats and didn't notice you complaining about that.
Clark's gender (as opposed to her agenda) was irrelevant. Get over yourself.]

"Bullshit. I don't believe a word of it. You're a commenter called AcidComments, you could be anyone."
That's the problem with people like you. You go around with 'rose tinted' glasses on!
I know people personnelly who had their lives ruined by these scum.
I've personnally witnessed the shit that goes on behind closed doors and run into this individuals myself.
My family has been a victim of serious corruption in the past!
BTW: Police won't prosecute criminals. I.E Drug dealers if they have political connections. That's a fact!

AcidComments, produce the evidence. It's only fair that you do this, right? Otherwise this is potential defamation of all past and present Labour MPs, and we know how much Ian Wishart hates defamation. In fact given Wishart's stern anti-defamation stance, I'm extremely surprised he hasn't removed your comments.

Why do you need evidence for a blog site conversation? Why don’t you just take his word for it, as if someone would write on a blog site (as much as this guy does) concocting stories just for the hell of it, stories that sound all too familiar anyway. You can ‘tell’ he is sincere.
Anyone with any foresight would know it is fairly obvious politicians are ‘very’ corrupt (on ‘all’ sides).

"AcidComments, produce the evidence."
Rob.
If I did that on this blog. That would cause defamation. Plus It would put some of the victims in danger.
Besides. Some of the evidence has been passed on to the authorities. Problem is many witnesses won't come forward. I.E when in one such case a former Labour Politician was deliberately employing people who were on the dole under the table for cheap labour to prop up his 'snakeoil' of a business!
Plus too much coverup and corruption by the authorities anyway!
I had an honest police friend try to investigate the falsified police records. Well he just got stonewalled by his bent superiors!

Acid Comments
You have clearly overdosed on lemon juice as very acidic you are.
More sugar next time for the sake of us all!

Peter.
You prove my point.
People like you don't want to know the truth!

I haven't read an ordinary high street newspaper for a long time and this reminds me why. Adds interrupted by generally nothing much worth reading. I suspect it wasn't always that way.

Acid Comments says:

Acid gets high on lemon juice.
It seems to me that under the cloak of Christianity and churchiness, Philip Field thought he could continue to protest his innocence.
Hell, he even stood for Parliament at the next election.
Labour got shot of him quite early, He prolonged his own agony. It is hard to compare him with other politicians - what about Donna Awatere?

Going back to the topic briefly if I may, can I ask how the legal action is progressing? Or has the dastardly offender settled out of court?
Progress please Ian..

The concept of air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome, where aqueduct water was circulated through the walls of certain houses to cool them.
