None dare call it a conspiracy, but the globalists in Australia, China and the UK appear to be acting in concert to begin heavily censoring the internet, presumably once the great global governing structure is in place within 24 months or so.
The UK House of Lords is reportedly mulling the impact of proposed new legislation which would give British officials the power to shut down internet access to sites the government did not want people to access, or shut down internet service for citizens the government felt were against them.
11 Obligations to limit internet access
After section 124G of the Communications Act 2003 insert—
"124H Obligations to limit internet access
(1) The Secretary of State may at any time by order impose a technical obligation on internet service providers if the Secretary of State considers it appropriate in view of—
(a) an assessment carried out or steps taken by OFCOM under section 124G; or
(b) any other consideration.
(2) An order under this section must specify the date from which the technical obligation is to have effect, or provide for it to be specified.
(3) The order may also specify—
(a) the criteria for taking the technical measure concerned against a subscriber;
(b) the steps to be taken as part of the measure and when they are to be taken."
UK legal advisor Francis Davey writes:
For example the power could be used to:
- order ISP's to block any web page found on the Internet Watch Foundation's list
- block specific undesirable sites (such as wikileaks)
- block specific kinds of traffic or protocols, such as any form of peer-to-peer
- throttle the bandwidth for particular kinds of service or to or from particular websites.
In short, pretty much anything.
I do not exagerrate. The definition of a "technical obligation" and "technical measure" are inserted by clause 10:
A "technical obligation", in relation to an internet service provider, is an obligation for the provider to take a technical measure against particular subscribers to its service.
A "technical measure" is a measure that— (a) limits the speed or other capacity of the service provided to a subscriber; (b) prevents a subscriber from using the service to gain access to particular material, or limits such use; (c) suspends the service provided to a subscriber; or (d) limits the service provided to a subscriber in another way.
This follows hard on the heels of a similar stunt in Australia by the leftist Rudd regime under the guise of child porn (which is not generally accessible on websites anyway), the well known case of China, and of course the still on the table NZ proposal under the guise of protecting "copyright". The latter, of course, would have been an ideal weapon to block publication of the Climategate emails had it been in force at the time.
Trust me on this one, these socialist numbnuts will use any stalking horse they can, and by the time they've spun it through the useful idiots of the mainstream media even we will feel like low-lifes for even considering opposing the plans. Because that's how the best propaganda campaigns work.
Alternatively, we could listen to the leftist bloggers who will jump in anytime now and call the mysterious emergence of similar legislative agendas around the world a mere innocent coincidence, and the rest of us are "conspiracy theorists" for even considering otherwise.
I know "coincidence theory" is popular with some people, but coincidences are governed by the laws of chance, and the more coincidences the higher the likelihood of design. Most investigative journalists will tell you they don't come across many genuine coincidence theory cases.
Common theme in this is that Rudd's Australian Labor Party, Gordon Brown's UK Labour, and NZ Labour who initially proposed the NZ law, are all senior members of Socialist International who, as previously revealed in Investigate this year, just coincidentally are heavy hitters in the "new world order" (their words) proposal.
Hat tip: James Delingpole
When the British were first told during the Cold War that ID cards were a good idea the counter view was that those bad communist countries had them and the free west couldn't emulate the commies when the west was opposed to them. That stalled things for a while but now the pace of change in the area of citizen control is amazing. It will come a cropper, evil always does, but its going to be uncomfortable for a while. Just a little while.

Don't forget that there are members of Socialist International who are highly placed in the US Obama administration now as well. This will have serious ramifications for the free disemination of information throughout the west. Control the flow of information and you can control the masses.

What do you think that the Secret ACTA agreement is all about?
And as I pointed out a week or so ago, our NZ Government has already trialed internet filtering and snooping.
As usual it all starts with saying that the Government needs to stop the availability of kiddy porn to keep the internet safe and to protect against copyright infringmenent because it's costing Hollywood (incidentally the biggest left wing propoganda machine) billions of dollars a year.
In reality, they want to prevent the free flow of information and news and prevent people from obtaining shared knowledge and having free speech on a global scale.

Things will often appears to be 'co-incidences' when you're continually actively searching for evidence to support a narrative. When you're of a mind to link everything together, you'll start seeing 'coincidences' everywhere.

Are you happy about anything, CM? I mean anything at all - is there something, somewhere in life, which pleases you, or which brings you some small measure of enjoyment?
I only ask because I care.

Richard. P.
Unfortunately CM would 'blindly' believe this twaddle.
OH, the depression of it all. 7 years before we're all 'DOOMED'!

Seven years, say 2017; if the Russians and the sunspot watchers are right, we should be about five years into an extended period of significant global climate cooling by then.
This will mean both lower rainfall, and a shorter colder growing season, in the bits of the world which produce most of its food. Naturally this will reduce yields and hike prices, and increase pressure on fisheries, and on the deforestation of more temperate lands to make way for agriculture, both meat production and arable farming.
It will also increase demand for irrigation water from ground sources, which are already under pressure in many places, thanks to the demands of exponentially multiplying human populations.
Countries which are major exporters of food, or are at least largely self-sufficient, will fare better than those which are not, unless of course they are themselves susceptible to either drought or cold, as are Australia and Canada.
Most of Europe will face major shortages of grains and cereal crops, and have to pay far higher prices for what they are able to obtain, as export volumes are reduced, and much of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East will suffer through not being able to meet increased world prices for these commodities.
It has long puzzled me that anyone would hitch their doomsday wagon to something as tenuous as Global Warming, which has a very good chance of being not only disproven, but completely stood on its head, in such a short human timeframe, ie when people can still remember precisely who it was that was promoting the idea.
I mean I know that the internationalists and the United Nations fanatics and the other communists and control freaks are just desperate to have their own way and to be in charge, but surely this Global Warming bollicks was just a very silly way of going about trying to achieve that end?
When the cold comes, and I believe it will, and probably really quite soon, the Warmists will be alright because they will have plenty of humble pie to eat.
Much of the rest of the world, however, may very well starve.
Don't we live in interesting times?

"Happy thoughts"
If that does happen.
Prince Charles and Obama will being calling for more 'socalled' Greenhouse Gases to warm things up a bit.
OH wait. That's right.
White House science czar John Holdren has predicted 1 billion people will die in "carbon-dioxide induced famines" in a coming new ice age by 2020.
Holdren predicted in a 1971 textbook co-authored with Malthusian population alarmist Paul Ehrlich that global over-population was heading the Earth to a new ice age unless the government mandated urgent measures to control population, including the possibility of involuntary birth control measures such as forced sterilization.
Holdren's prediction that 1 billion people would die from a global cooling "eco-disaster" was announced in Ehrlich's 1986 book "The Machinery
So some Alarmists will claim they were right. Regardless of the outcome and Natural Climate Cycles.

Yes, and how fortunate it is for the Globalists that smaller populations are easier to control than large ones.
On that subject, now that a deal has been reached in Kobenhavn (according to breaking news on Granny Herald, surprise surprise, pardon my cynicism, but like that wasn't ever going to not happen at the last minute), watch this space for Gun Control to reappear on the NZ Government's agenda.

Thanks Richard, I appreciate the concern. I'm actually an extremely happy and positive person. I'm enjoying this place. can't you tell? I feel very sorry to those who fall victim to conspiracy and paranoia. Especially when there ARE people coming after them....

You might have stumbled across the flaw in your plan, rather than theirs.

I'm sure it would to much to request some sort of reference link or anything of the sort? Given that claims here don't ever need to be supported (while at the same time the same person will inaccurately mock AGW theory for the same thing...).

Yikes. You guys all reading the same pamphlets? Or delivering them after school?
Posted by: CM | December 21, 2009 at 10:20 PM
No, I don't do references or links, very often if at all. I do however almost always re-check the facts on stuff before I write about it, though I'm happy to confess that on occasion I rely on memory.
Everything I post or otherwise diseminate can be found in the public domain, should anyone care to go looking for it. (I know full well I'm not allowed to talk about the other stuff ;-) )I don't generally bother with references because contarians, in my experience, don't usually bother to check them, and invariably don't believe the truth when they see it anyway.
I'm also a supremely arrogant being, in case you hadn't noticed, and I offer information for the benefit of the objective reader, freely at that, and I have no interest whatsoever in whether or not anyone wishes to question it. It's there at face value for the enlightenment of the sober and the curious.

CM,
It's you lot that read from the same script and won't do any proper research for yourself. And DON'T KNOW the real Background on some of these socalled ICONs of Global Warming.
No use using Wiki for reference links for AGW/CC either.
The AGW/CC Gurus are a pack of lying fraudsters, crooks, hypocrites and baffoons.

This just in. There have apparently been some naughty goings-on at Wikipedia (surprise surprise, or not really when you consider what they do with Fractional Reserve Banking entry edits).
Anyhoo, here it is, maybe it's part of a conspiracy, or maybe it's just coincidence.

Wikipedia Fires Crazy Left-wing Climate Editor
http://deathby1000papercuts.com/2009/12/wikipedia-agw-bias-wiki-censor-william-connolley-axed/
Wikipedia announced that it has fired its long time climate editor William Connolley, . Connolley,a software engineer and host at RealClimate, a left- wing AGW site that relentlessly punishes AGW skeptics and lavishly praises alarmists, has been found to have changed over 5,000 Wikipedia articles to promote AGW catastrophic speculation.
He has been observed altering history, most prominetly by removing the Medieval Warming Period. But he also has been found to have described the careers and accomplishments of AGW skeptics in the most unflattering way. For background, Lawrence Solomon writes in the National Post:
He rewrote Wikipedia's articles on global warming, on the greenhouse effect, on the instrumental temperature record, on the urban heat island, on climate models, on global cooling. On Feb. 14, he began to erase the Little Ice Age; on Aug.11, the Medieval Warm Period. In October, he turned his attention to the hockey stick graph. He rewrote articles on the politics of global warming and on the scientists who were skeptical of the band. Richard Lindzen and Fred Singer, two of the world's most distinguished climate scientists, were among his early targets, followed by others that the band especially hated, such as Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, authorities on the Medieval Warm Period.
All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn't like the subject of a certain article, he removed it -- more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand. When he disapproved of the arguments that others were making, he often had them barred -- over 2,000 Wikipedia contributors who ran afoul of him found themselves blocked from making further contributions. Acolytes whose writing conformed to Connolley's global warming views, in contrast, were rewarded with Wikipedia's blessings. In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.
Lawrence Solomon: Wikipedia's climate doctor
That is what passes for peer review among the Warmists.
Frankly, the fact that Wikipedia is carefully edited by left-wing ideologues has been known for years. There is virtually no area of research that has not been compromised by left wing political theory.
Science, history, biographies etc. are frequently edited to propagandize liberal thought. Connolley just happened to be one of the more prolific censors. Because of this his firing comes as a bit of a surprise.
But in response to a complained lodged by Dennis Kuzara , Wikipedia replied as follows:
In September 2009, the Wikipedia Arbitration Committee revoked Mr.
Connolley's administrator status after finding that he misused his administrative privileges while involved in a dispute unrelated to climate warming. This has now been added to his article.
Nobody has replaced him specifically, but there are more than a thousand other administrators with very varied backgrounds.
Mr. Kuzara immediately shared the news with Anthony Watt of the popular site, Watts Up With That.http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/19/more-on-
wikipedia-and-connolley-hes-been-canned-as-a-wiki-administrator/#more-14331
It is disturbing that Wikipedia saw no reason to can this green party member for his climate antics. And while they did not state why he was fired, it would be not out of character to find out that he attempted to smear someone's reputation. You can read about that nasty habit here. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2008/05/03/who-
is-william-connolley-solomon.aspx
Good riddance. But there are many more of his ilk in the wings, who, no doubt will be honored to continue the battle against sanity.

Richard, these so called software engineers are really guys/girls who are good at cutting & pasting HTML codes then call themselves software engineers so that they can appear/look like that they're intelligent. No these people are just script-kiddies, because they ain't engineer.
The real software engineers are dudes who develop engineering/scientific stuff (from electronics, robotics to industrial, etc...).
